 Introduction

And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.
 Luke 13:32

The word common is one of the most common words in the English language. From the House of Commons to the common people, common has camaraderie. Conscientious men of science have collaborated countless hours on the cure for the common cold as well as the cure for cancer. As has been with medicine, today's ministers are desiring a cure for what ails the body of Christ. Like my fellow ministers, I have spent countless hours researching the commons of the Scripture, to find an uncommon cure for this common ailment. I found that there are a lot of commons. They include: common people, common death, common bread, common hall, common prison, common temptation, common faith, and common salvation.

Common Things
In Acts chapter two, 120 people obeyed the command of Christ and assembled in the Upper Room. After a ten-day waiting period, suddenly, there came a sound from Heaven as a rushing mighty wind and cloven tongues shaped like fire sat on each of them as they were filled with the Holy Spirit. Since all 120 were filled, this entire group had so much in common that, as they shared this experience with others the same day, three thousand more were added to the Lord.

On this day, called Pentecost, Peter preached repentance with power, and people's hearts were pricked. They began to ask, What do we need to do? Peter instructed them to repent, to be baptized, and to be filled with the same Holy Spirit that had just descended in the Upper Room. In essence Peter said, Do what we did. The crowd responded, accepted the Lord Jesus as their personal Savior, was baptized, and received the Holy Ghost. This is what the scripture meant went it said, Added to the Lord the common body of Christ is growing by conversions. According to the passage in Acts this happened on a daily basis!

Acts 2:44 tells us that this group of believers was together and had all things common. With this collective commonality these newly empowered persons arose to face the challenge of changing the world. And change the world they did! Now some two thousand years later the phenomenon of this experience has ministered to millions. What could your church accomplish for the Lord with 120 members having this kind of commonality?

Common Division
However, the one church that was formed in the Book of Acts has been divided into a deluge of denominations. There are approximately two billion people in the world who call themselves Christians. The majority of those are divided into over 145 different denominations. These are all Christian denominations preaching out of the same Bible. (With all of this division, they may even argue that the number of Christians is less than two billion.) Many of these denominations feel that they are the only true Christians, and will go as far as to say that a person cannot be saved unless they become a member of their group. While multiplied thousands have been added to the Lord, denominations have increasingly become divided on what should be the common ground of scripture.

Due to this denominational division, the Lord prompted me to begin a non-denominational church in the city of Tupelo, Mississippi, ten years ago. The last time I took a survey, we have people from about eighteen different denominational backgrounds, sitting side by side at Word of Life Church. No, we do not have a common denomination, but do we have a Common Denominator. His name is Jesus! Jesus! Neither is their salvation in any other: for there is none other name under Heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12.

Common Cure
At Word of Life Church, I have observed people breaking down barriers and committing and submitting to the real issues. The Lord spoke to me that what was happening at Word of Life Church was The Cure for Common Christianity. I became very inspired by this clich and began to advertise on television, billboards and radio that Word of Life Church had The Cure for Common Christianity. What happened next took me by surprise everywhere I went people asked me, What is the cure for common Christianity? At the gym, at funerals and in restaurants, I was continually asked this question. One day I was sitting in my office when a man came through and basically bypassed our secretary as he inquired, Where is the pastor? Before she could answer, he found my office and barreled his way inside. He said, I am a retired minister and I,ve got to know what is the cure for common Christianity? As I did with all of the other inquisitors, when I was penned down and asked the question point blank, I could not give a single answer.

I knew the answer, but it was hard to explain. Before I knew what I was saying, I told this gentleman, I am writing a book about this subject. That was about five years ago!So for the past five years as scientists sat in labs searching for the cures to the common cold and countless cancers, I joined them. Our research labs are different, but I continued to search out The Cure for Common Christianity. While scientists have made great advances for their cures, they are still in the labs. The CURE FOR COMMON CHRISTIANITY is out of the lab and it is in your lap. Come journey with me on the quest for this cure!
